ADRIAN MOORE (SH 76-81) writes from Switzerland:
“It is a number of years since I last provided any news of my life and whereabouts. This brief update may be of interest to some readers.
After working as a solicitor in the property department of a City of London law firm for several years, I left the UK at the end of 1992 to take up what was initially planned as an eighteen month posting in Moscow. Enjoying legal practice there, I ended up staying for ten years and of course in that time was privileged to witness many changes. A partner with Baker & McKenzie since 1995, I moved my base to Switzerland about five years ago. Since then I have continued to work mostly on Russian and Ukrainian real estate developments.
The time has however come to make a change and several years ago I decided that I had to prepare for a new role. Long ago inspired by Tom Rice, I have decided to become a history teacher. An MA in history will start next autumn, and I am hoping at the end of a further year to find a job in one of the many English-speaking schools in this part of Switzerland.
Accused of having a mid-life crisis by some, I can assure anybody who remembers me that I remain happily married to Karen, my wife of nearly thirteen years; that I will not be colouring my nearly grey hair, and that despite the example set by Peter Broadhurst in the 1970s, a teacher’s salary will not stretch to a Porsche!
Changing career will allow me to spend more time with my wife and our daughter Rose, who is nine. I hope it will also allow us more opportunity to benefit from all that is on offer here in Switzerland.
I always enjoy reading the Bulletins and newsletters from the school. It seems to have changed so much in the last 30 years.”
