Critchley Cup
Silloth on Solway Friday 12th September 2008
The Critchley Cup was held at Silloth on the 12th September again to
try to link the day to Old St. Beghians Day and to a match against the
school the next day. Silloth was in good condition although very green
and soft for the time of year. The day just stayed dry with a gentle
breeze blowing for a pleasant afternoon’s golf after soup and
sandwiches in the Club House. Silloth as usual did not give in lightly,
and nobody tore the course apart, and it was good to see new faces and
other members again, although a special mention must go to Nigel Costeloe,
who arrived from Calgary.
The prize winners were:
CRITCHLEY CUP - Chris Lamont 37
FARQUIES' FORTIFIER - Jonathan Crosland 36
BILL FOX CUP - Adrian Peckitt Gross 82
RYDER TANKARD - Ron Whatley Gross 84
KEN CASE TANKARD - David Chidley 33
DICK HARRISON CUP (over 12 handicap) - Andrew Johnston 33
DORMAN SALVER ( under 25 years) - Not awarded
Other members competing and enjoying the day were Rodney Atkinson, Michael
Coffey, Nigel Costeloe, Richard Crummey, Anthony Fox, David Johnston,
Mathew Rigby, and Mike Stamper. Charles Woodhouse, a present governor
of the school, and Graham Lamont, a former governor, joined us for the
day. Viviane Coffey and Margaret Chidley also joined us for dinner During
dinner it was announced that Tom Sharp wished to retire from the Presidency
and that he had invited Michael Coffey to succeed him. This was unanimously
approved and a vote of thanks was given for all Tom's hard work. Thanks
are also extended to Andrew Johnston for his many years’ work
as secretary.
