Scottish Gathering
7th & 8th November 2008
Oban Seil Farm, Seil Island, Oban.
A more unusual annual get together was hosted by old boy and parent
- Nick Hunter (SH 63-67) and Bette at their beautiful spot on Seil Island.
Some 20 + arrived at Oban Seil Farm on the Friday and were accommodated
in the enchanting holiday cottages or bothy with a fine meal, washed
down by good wine and Jura whisky. The President of the Society, Don
Williams, set out his agenda and the Headmaster said a few words on
behalf of the school. This was a very relaxed evening with informal
and lively conversation going into the early hours of the morning.
On the Saturday attendees either went home or found some fresh air between
the showers, while the male members were to be found watching one if
not two of the Autumn rugby internationals to remind them what Saturday
afternoons on the touchline were all about. In order to give the ‘scullery
maids’, as they liked to be known, an evening off - we dined at
the local pub and continued our reminiscences into the night - boys
on one table and girls on another.
We left Nick and Bette by midday on Sunday to pack their bags for a
well earned holiday in Equador, where Nick hoped to ascend one of the
highest peaks in South America, placing him among the St. Beghian mountaineering
immortals! Everybody enjoyed their stay and the bonhomie and we thank
Nick and Bette for their hospitality and hard work in making it a memorable
Branch Event.
