Howard Limon (FS 42-46) died in March this
year. His brother Donald has sent in the following:
“Howard Limon (1928-2010) enjoyed his time
at St Bees, where he was especially friendly with Alec McCaig and
Arnold Bloomer. He subsequently moved on to Queen’s College,
Oxford, where he read History. After graduating, he immediately began
a successful career as a preparatory school master. His first post
was at Mostyn House School on the Wirral, from where he moved on to
Victoria College, Jersey to fill a new post as head of the Junior
School. In 1968 he returned to the mainland as headmaster of Boundary
Oak School, Fareham. Finally he taught on a part-time basis at St.
Aubyn’s School, Rottingdean, before retiring to Brighton and
later moving on to Somerset. He was regarded by all who knew him as
a round peg in a round hole, being greatly loved by boys, staff and
parents at each of the establishments in which he found himself. His
secret was that he instinctively knew how boys’ brains worked.
In his spare time he was a keen dry fly fisherman, a skill he learned
whilst at St. Bees. He was married in 1970 to Betty Williamson.”
